Genesis Chapter 29 - Jacob’s ladder

Jacob is successful in finding his mother‘s people. He first encounters, Rachel a shepherdess watering the flock. He stays with Laban for 30 days. He agrees to marry Rachel after he works for Laban for seven years. Leah is given to him as wife ahead of Rachel. Jacob agrees to work another seven years for Leah. Rachel remains barren. Leah has four sons Ruben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah.

Genesis Chapter 28 - Jacob departs to Haran

Isaac tells Jacob to return to the house of his mother‘s brother Laban, and to take a wife from among Laban‘s daughters. He also instructed Jacob to not take away from the Canaanite women. Esau perceives of the Canaanite women are evil in his father‘s eyes and so he takes a daughter of Ishmael as his third wife. Jacob dreams, a dream of a ladder between heaven and earth. YHVH blesses Jacob as he had done with Isaac and also as he had done with Abraham. Jacob vows to repeatedly tied to God, the blessings bestow upon him if God agrees to be a God to him and to protect him.

Genesis Chapter 27 - Jacob receives Esau’s blessing

Jacob plans to bless Esau his first born son before he dies. Rebecca usurps Jacob and assists Jacob in tricking his father Jacob to bless him instead. Esau harbors hatred toward Jacob. Rebecca tells Jacob to flee to Charan where her brother Laban dwells.

Genesis Chapter 26 - 2nd famine in the land

The second famine was in the land. YHVH advises Isaac not to descend to Egypt. Isaac settles in Gerar. Isaac is greatly multiplied, and becomes greater than the Philistines. Isaac establishes Beer-sheba. Esau takes a wife at 40, Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite. The were a source of spiritual rebellion to Isaac and Rebecca.

Genesis Chapter 25 - Abraham marries Keturah

Abraham marries Keturah and has six sons with her. Abraham lives to be 175 years old. Ishmael lives to be 137 years old and has 12 sons. Isaac married Rebecca at 40 years old. Isaac is 60 years old when Rebecca has twins, Esau and Jacob. Esau spurns his birthright.
